The GAAC’s Strategy: Prevention activities against cholera
The Global Alliance Against Cholera accomplishes its objective through prevention activities designed to enhance the availability of essential services in pre-identified vulnerable areas. Without the removal of water-borne disease vectors at this time, and in the future, the cycle of periodic epidemics will continue.

This reality provides the Health and Water, Sanitation, Hygiene (W.A.S.H.) services Financing Agencies, with the opportunity of increasing their support for preventive measures. These measures of prevention will reduce and eventually eliminate the need for continuing cholera treatment expenditures. It is this paradigm shift in funding strategy that the G.A.A.C. seeks to encourage, initially for the targeted areas in the Democratic Republic of Congo and subsequently for the many other similarly affected countries.
